The 3rd IAP Conference for Young Scientists held in conjuction with the Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum took place in Tianjin, China, in September 2010.
IAP and the World Economic Forum facilitated the participation of 60 outstanding young scientists in the 2nd IAP Conference of Young Scientists which was an integral part of the World Economic Forum's "Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2009" which took place in Dalian, China, from 10-13 September 2009 and involved around 1500 participants.
The InterAcademy Panel on International Issues (IAP) organized two events at the World Economic Forum’s 2008 Meeting of the New Champions, held in Tianjin, China, from 26 to 28 September 2008.
Young scientists are increasingly called upon to participate in multi-stakeholder dialogues on research, innovation, and global issues. Since its inception in 2008, the World Economic Forum’s Young Scientists Community, in collaboration with IAP, selects the best scientific minds who will spur innovation and play a transformational role in integrating scientific knowledge and technological innovation to improve the state of the world. The Global Young Academy (GYA) grew out of discussions amongst top young scientists from around the world convened by IAP for the Annual Meeting of New Champions which took place in 2008 and 2009.
The GYA was officially founded in February, 2010 with support by IAP. IAP and GYA continue to coordinate nominations to the Forums' Young Scientists Community on behalf of senior academies and the National Young Academies (NYAs), as well as closely collaborate on programmes and activities.
