IAP - the global network of science academies - has learned of the recent changes enacted by the government of Turkey to the governance of our member academy TUBA, the Turkish Academy of Sciences, which appear to deprive it of its autonomy and independence.
We view this news as very disturbing, and would regard removal of TUBA's autonomy as a major retrogressive step for Turkey, and its science, technology, andinnovation enterprise.
We urge the Turkish government to reconsider its decision and restore TUBA's previous governance structure and autonomy.
