In accordance with the dispositions set out in the last will and testament of the late Maria Tartufari Dalcò, the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, awards four “Prof. Luigi Tartufari” Prizes to Italian or Foreign scholars.
The four Prizes, in the amount of € 25.000 each (gross amount before tax deductions) will be awarded in the following fields:
- Physics and Chemistry;
- Molecular, cellular and evolutionary biology.
The President of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei invites the members of the Accademia dei Lincei and the Presidents of Italian and Foreign Academies to nominate candidates. A letter of nomination specifying contribution and worthiness of the candidate, together with supporting material, must reach the Academy no later than 31 December 2017 (postmarkdeadline). Since the postmark submission date falls on a weekend, the application deadline isextended the next working day.
Nominations are evaluated by Committees, appointed by the Class of Physical, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, in January 2018. Each Committee is composed of five members. Of the five, at least three members must be members of the Accademia dei Lincei. External members may also be appointed by the Class of Physical, Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The Academy members who have submitted nominations may not be members of the Committee. Each Committee may propose further candidates, provide that the proposals are accepted unanimously by the members of the Committee.
The new nominations must be sent to the Academy within ten days of Committee’s motion to accept the proposal (postmark date or e-mail). The nominations will be examined by the Committee after at least twenty days from the resolution date. Members of the Accademia dei Lincei are not eligible for the Prizes. Each Committee will present to the Academy’s Executive Board, no later than 31 May 2018, a brief report justifying its recommendation, including an assessment of each candidate. The Academy’s Executive Board will submit the reports, with its opinion, to the Class of Physical, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and subsequently to the Academy’s Assembly Meeting for final approval. The Prizes will be awarded in June 2018 during the closing ceremony of the academic year.
