Digital technologies offer promising means of anticipating, analyzing, and responding to serious human rights concerns, but they also present human rights challenges. On 18 September 2019 the Committee on Human Rights of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will gather experts in the fields of human rights and technology to examine these challenges and to explore ways of leveraging digital innovation in a manner that helps protect internationally recognized human rights.

The Human Rights and Digital Technologies symposium, which will be webcast live, will bring together a diverse group of experts from academia, international and non-governmental organizations, industry, and government.

David Kaye, U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of the Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression, will deliver the keynote address.
