The IAP held its triennal Conference and General Assembly in Alexandria, Egypt, on 1-5 December 2006. Participation was open, by invitation only, to IAP member academies, observers and affiliated regional networks of academies.
The joint events were hosted by the prestigious Bibliotheca Alexandrina (left, aerial view), the state-of-the-art, 40,000-square-meter library complex that was built on the same site as the ancient Library of Alexandria (3rd cent. BC). More images...
The IAP Conference, that took place from 1-3 December, was devoted to the theme "The Unity of Science" and featured speeches by eminent speakers in the different areas of natural and social sciences, including mathematical, physical, life, earth sciences. The General Assembly was held (for IAP members only) on 4-5 December and was inaugurated by the Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Ismail Serageldin. A cultural event took place in Cairo on 6 December.
