Prof. Maged Al Sherbiny obtained his PhD in diagnosis of infectious diseases and vaccines from Cairo University in 1992 and professorship in immunology in 2004. Since 2004, Prof. Maged has occupied several important positions in Science and Technology System in Egypt, such as Assistant Minister of Scientific Research and Higher Education, Assistant Minister of State for Scientific Research and Secretary General of Supreme Council of Research Institutes in Egypt. In April, 2010 he was appointed as the president of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.
Salient achievements of Prof. Maged included actively participation in reforming of science and technology system in Egypt, establishment of a national body for funding of science, technology and innovations (Science and Technology Development Fund), internationalization of scientific Egyptian Journals in collaboration with Elsevier, establishment of a unit for science, technology and innovation indicators in Egypt (Egyptian STI observatory) and preparation of a national plan for STI. He is well-known for his outstanding research in the field of immunology and infectious diseases (schistosomiasis) and has published over 40 Int. scientific papers and two holding patents in the field of Immunology.
