Academia Nacional de Ciencias de la República Oriental del Uruguay ANCiU
The National Academy of Sciences of Uruguay was created in 2009 by law approved by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the República Oriental del Uruguay meeting in General Assembly.
It has the purpose to advise and promote the development of the sciences. With such a purpose, it is able to emit pronouncements in matters of science policy and promotion of the scientific, technological and innovation research, both in the national as well as in the international integration arenas, and provide the advice it agrees upon, carrying out the studies and researches that it is requested directly or through technical consultative committees. The Academy allows the incorporation of up to 30 Active Members in all scientific disciplines ranging from Natural and Exact Sciences to Humanities.
The Academy receives an annual budget from the Ministry of Education and Culture. In 2012 this budget was of $ 400.000 (U$S 20.000). Besides, ANCiU searches for sponsorship from public or private national institutions, for the organization of specific activities.
As an academic partner of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, the institution is entitled to identify and nominate young scientists studying or performing research in our country that meet our selection criteria. The ANCiU is in close contact with other national and foreign Academies, as well as with international organizations, universities and scientific institutions. The Academy has also participation in the Global Network of Academies of Sciences (IAP) and in the Inter American Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS).
