Biography
am currently employed at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya as a Lecturer in Paediatrics. I share responsibility (along with seven other staff members) of teaching (lectures, tutorials, problem based learning, etc), clinical training (8-week Professorial Paediatrics Appointment) and assessment of medical students in Paediatrics (MBBS degree programme is a 5-year programme with approximately 175 students in each intake). I have also been appointed as the Career guidance advisor of the medical faculty by the vice chancellor. I am involved in providing advice and organizing lecture series and workshops on career guidance to the medical students.
I also serve as Honorary Consultant Paediatrician at the University Paediatrics Unit and the Paediatrician-in-charge of the Paediatric thalassaemia unit of Colombo North Teaching Hospital (CNTH), Ragama, Sri Lanka.  CNTH is a tertiary care referral center and is a national referral center for diagnosis and management of thalassaemia which is a major public health problem in Sri Lanka. As a clinician I lead the multidisciplinary team (which includes senior registrars, registrars (residents), junior doctors, nurses and laboratory scientists) caring for patients with thalassaemia. Currently I also lead clinical research on thalassaemia and iron deficiency anaemia which are the two most common paediatric haematological conditions in the country.
