In 2006, the InterAcademy Council published a report titled, ‘Women for Science: An advisory report’ geared at providing information and recommendations to academies of science on the importance of full inclusion of women in science, technology and innovation (STI) activities. Academies of science have a dual mandate, to honour excellence and provide evidence-based policy advice to their governments and stakeholders. In order for this mandate to be fully implemented, the recognition through academy membership and participation of women scientists in academies’ policy advisory activities is important. One of the recommendations of the IAC report was the importance of collecting gender-disaggregated data from IAP member academies and reporting these data regularly. This project aims at undertaking the first comprehensive survey of IAP member academies to ascertain the inclusion and participation of women scientists. The results of the survey will be presented at the 2015 IAP General Assembly.
