IPBES Call: Strengthening Knowledge Generation Catalysis

Policy for Science
Sustainable Development Goals
The call focuses on ways to strengthen the implementation of objective 3 (a) of the IPBES rolling work programme up to 2030, in particular the aspect on knowledge generation catalysis.

In a bid to enhance the implementation of Objective 3 (a) of the IPBES rolling work programme, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has issued a call for inputs aimed at bolstering knowledge generation catalysis.

Following the decision IPBES-10/1, which laid the groundwork for advancing the platform's objectives, IPBES is urging governments, organisations and stakeholders to contribute their insights and recommendations on enhancing the catalysis of knowledge relevant to biodiversity and ecosystem services.

The approved workplan, covering the intersessional period from 2023 to 2024, is currently being executed by the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel and the Bureau, with support from the IPBES secretariat. The focus lies on fostering knowledge generation essential for IPBES's mission.

All stakeholders are encouraged to submit their inputs and suggestions via the provided submission form, which will inform the development of draft workplans for the upcoming intersessional periods of 2024-2025 and 2025-2026. These drafts will subsequently be reviewed by the Plenary at its eleventh session.

The submission form is available here. Deadline for submissions is set for 5 May 2024. Any inquiries regarding the submission process can be directed to the IPBES secretariat at mea-ipbes-secretariat@un.org.

This call for inputs underscores IPBES's commitment to harnessing collective expertise and insights to address the critical challenges facing global biodiversity and ecosystem services. It is a great opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the shaping of future strategies for knowledge generation within the IPBES framework.
