Biography

Prof. Dr Yves Flückiger is President of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences from January 2024.
As a graduate in political economy and sociology, Yves Flückiger did his doctorate in political economy. Following research stays in the United States (Harvard), England (Oxford) and Australia (Deakin University in Victoria), he was appointed professor at the University of Geneva in 1992. Among his many responsibilities, he directed the Observatoire universitaire de l'emploi, which monitors labour market developments, and the Leading House for Education Economics. In addition, he served as Vice-President of the Swiss Competition Commission (2003-2007), as Rector of the University of Geneva (2015-2023) as well as President of swissuniversities (2020-2023), i.e. the umbrella organization of all Swiss higher education institutions, and of the League of European Research Universities (LERU, 2022-2023).
