The Association of Academies of Sciences in Asia (AASA) and National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic (NAS KR) held a regional workshop on “The Roles of Academies of Sciences in Water and Energy Problems in Central Asia and Ways for Their Solution” from 30 June – 2 July, 2011 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The workshop was supported by the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, AASA, IAP, and other Kyrgyz organizations.

The purpose of the regional workshop was to discuss and offer solutions to issues involving water resources and electric power systems of Central Asia and to promote social and economic development of the region, and is a follow up to the recommendations which emerged at the workshop on "Science Academies in Central and Southern Asia and their Role in Society”, organized by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) in Istanbul (September 2010).
