The Workshop on "A Global Movement in Support of Inquiry-based Science Education" is organized by AAAS, TWAS and IAP.

A Poster Session will also take place, highlighting activities implemented by IAP's Affiliated Networks in The Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe.

The Workshop is open to all AAAS Annual Meeting registrants.

Summary: International science academies will showcase their efforts to support quality science education through discussions, poster sessions, and hands-on demonstrations. Academies with proven history of reaching out to and involving STEM professionals can mentor those academies and other science organizations that are interested, but have little or no experience in organizing such activities.

Sessions include a Moderated Panel on"What We Have Learned:  Lessons from Around the Globe" with contributions from  Pierre Léna, French Academy of Sciences; Jorge Allende, Chilean Academy of Sciences; Bruce Alberts,  AAAS. This will be followed by Breakout Sessions on "Teacher Professional Development", "Big ideas Related to Curriculum and Cognitive Processes", "Creation of Resources", "Assessing Teachers and Students", followed by a Plenary by IAP Co-Chair Howard Alper on "Recommendations for Moving Forward: The Work Ahead".
