The IAP has appointed Dr Antonella di Trapani as its new Coordinator. She will join the IAP Trieste Secretariat on 1 September 2026.
Di Trapani comes to IAP with a background spanning science, international policy and diplomacy. Most recently, she was a Senior Research Fellow at the United Nations University (UNU) in Paris, where she worked on science diplomacy, digital technologies and global governance for sustainable development.
Her previous work includes positions and assignments with the OECD, G20 and European Commission, where she worked across research, policy and international cooperation. Her areas of expertise include science and technology diplomacy, the climate-energy-nuclear-security nexus and the implications of emerging technologies for peace, security and the Sustainable Development Goals.
She has advised the European Commission on science diplomacy and digital technologies and currently contributes to the Women in Digital Forum Working Group on bridging the STEM-digital career gap and to the UNESCO Global Quantum Initiative Working Group on anticipatory governance.
Alongside her professional work, Di Trapani has been active in international researcher networks. She served as Chair of the Marie Curie Fellows Association and founded and served as Vice-Chair of its Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion group. Her work has been recognised through Science-Policy-Security Fellowships from Mercator Stiftung and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, two Marie Curie Fellowships and the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network (GlobalWIIN) award.
Di Trapani holds a PhD in Chemistry and postgraduate qualifications in science communication, international development, international relations and diplomacy. She speaks Italian, English, French and Spanish.
In her new role at IAP, she will work with the Secretariat, member academies and partners across the network to coordinate IAP activities and support the Partnership’s work at the intersection of science, policy and society.
