The Young Academy of Colombia (AJC) is a Special Commission of the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences (ACCEFyN), created by Board Resolution 03 of 2019. It brings together young scientists and creators with recognized achievements, serving as a convergent space where intellectual, cultural, and social differences are creatively integrated.

Mission and Areas of Work. The AJC drives initiatives to disseminate science, connect disciplines and regions, inform science policy, and support the early-career integration of new generations into scientific life. Its mission lines include: science and technology outreach and promotion, interdisciplinary exchange, science policy, and entry into scientific life. These lines aim to strengthen Colombia’s scientific ecosystem and build bridges with the diaspora and with international networks of young academies.

Governance and Operations. The AJC operates with annual rotating coordination (co-chairs) and works in articulation with ACCEFyN’s institutional, communications, and web-support teams. It maintains a calendar of seminars, lectures, meetings, mentoring activities, and policy-engagement actions, and is linked to networks of young academies and related organizations for cooperation and science diplomacy. The AJC currently has 23 active members from different regions of the country and 3 special members who completed their membership term but remain engaged due to their significant contributions to the AJC’s mission. Gender distribution is 44% women and 56% men. Diaspora members represent 22% of the Academy, with locations in Germany, the United States, Belgium, Mexico, and Ecuador. Regionally, 13% are from Antioquia, 39% from the Central–Bogotá area, 17% from the Caribbean Region, and 9% from the Pacific Region.

Recognition. Admission to the Young Academy of Colombia constitutes a formal recognition of early-career scientific achievement, conferred in a solemn ceremony with the presentation of a diploma and the official AJC emblem
