Ahmed A. Alsharif
Founding Partner and CEO, Averroes Ventures, Egypt
Ahmed A. Alsharif; has more than twenty-five years of experience in the private-sector business in Egypt. He is the founding partner and CEO of “Averroes Ventures”
catering entrepreneurial endeavours through venture capital and management. Averroes invested in early-stage startups in Egypt and the MENA region. Among the successful investments are Breadfast, Trukker, Nawah Scientific, Illa, and Khazenly.
In addition, he was Executive Board Member and Managing Director of a portfolio of companies, including Koning for Food Industries, and Fields for Trading and
Industries (Magma Sportswear). He headed the investment activities for that portfolio and structured both debt and equity rounds. He helped launching several ventures
since inception including supermarkets, convenient stores, insurance brokerage, and financing companies. Previously, Ahmed was the Chairman and CEO of Abdullatif
Alsharif Group (ASG) which included a group of plastics factories, financing, Industrial Projects Management Company, and a trading and distribution firm in
Cairo. He has been involved in managing his family's business which has over 75 years of experience and of a highly diversified portfolio. Ranging from trade, retail,
manufacturing, consultancy and real estate has given him a unique exposure across the sectors. The businesses included PVC pipes and fittings, shading nets and
agricultural supplies, plastics material, supermarkets and houseware retail outlets.
Throughout the different ventures of the group, Ahmed has been actively participating
in some of the significant business associations, trade unions and chambers of commerce in Egypt. He was a board member of the Tenth of Ramadan Investors
Association. He was also a member of the Arab German Chamber of Commerce, British Egyptian Businessmen Association, and the Chamber of Chemical industries;
as well as the Egyptian Junior Businessmen Association (EJB) in both the engineering industries and entrepreneurship development committees. He is a member of the
Egyptian Private Equity Association (EPEA), where he established and headed the Venture Capital chapter. Ahmed is a member of the first advisory board of the
Egyptian Entrepreneurship Committee for the Prime Minister Cabinet.
Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics from the American University in Cairo (Feb ’98); he holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School,
Heriot-Watt University, UK (Nov ’04). In addition, he holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from Durham University Business School of the University of
Durham in England, UK (Jun ’15). He’s been awarded for best thesis researching entrepreneurial finance and the venture capital industry in Egypt and the MENA
region
