Biography

Dr. Tan Ai Huey is an Associate Professor and Consultant Neurologist at the University of Malaya, with a subspecialty interest in Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders. She has served as a Council Member of the Malaysian Movement Disorder Council since 2013, and was Co-Author of the National Consensus Guidelines for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. In 2018, she was elected as the President of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences (MSN), the professional body that represents Malaysian clinicians and scientists in the neurology/neuroscience field. At the international level, Dr Tan serves on several committees in the International Parkinson’s and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) including the MDS Education Committee. Dr Tan’s research areas are in Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders, with a particular interest in exploring the role of gut infections and gut microbiota in neurodegenerative diseases. Other research scopes include genetics, inflammation and geriatric aspects of parkinsonian disorders, and the characterization of rare/orphan neurological diseases. She has numerous peer-reviewed journal publications and book chapters, and has won several research awards. Dr. Tan is very passionate about teaching and is grateful to have met many great teachers and mentors in her life. She is actively involved in curriculum planning as well as exams coordination at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, at the Faculty of Medicine in University of Malaya.
