Dr Antonella di Trapani has extensive experience in science policy and diplomacy, strategic research governance, and stakeholder engagement. Prior to joining UNESCO TWAS, she was Senior Research Fellow at United Nations University (UNU) in Paris, working on science diplomacy, digital technologies and global governance for sustainable development. 

Her career spans academia, industry and several international organisations, including OECD, G20, and the European Commission. In these roles, she has worked at the interface of research, policy and global governance. Her work addresses science and technology diplomacy, the climate–energy–nuclear–security nexus and the policy implications of emerging technologies for peace, security and Sustainable Development Goals. She has also advised the European Commission on science diplomacy and digital technologies and she is currently a member of the Women in Digital Forum Working Group on bridging STEM- Digital Career Gap, and UNESCO  Global Quantum Initiative Working Group on Anticipatory Governance. She was awarded Science-Policy-Security Fellowships from Mercator Stiftung and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, as well as two Marie Curie Fellowships and the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network (GloablWIIN) award. She was Chair of the Marie Curie Fellows Association,  and founder and vice-chair of the Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) group of the Marie Curie Alumni Association. She holds a PhD in Chemistry, as well as postgraduate training in science communication and international development, relations and diplomacy.

She is fluent in Italian, English, French and Spanish.
