Fang Chen
Dr. Fang Chen is the Deputy Director General of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) and a professor of Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He is serving as the Director General of the CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence on Space Technology for Disaster Mitigation (SDIM), the member of the Scientific Committee of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), the Vice Chair of World Federation of Engineering Organizations Committee on Disaster Risk Management (WFEO-CDRM), and the Co-chair TWAS Young Affiliates Network Executive Committee. Dr. Chen is the co-author of the CAS annual report on Big Earth Data in Support of the SDGs, which was submitted to the UN General Assembly during its 74th and 75th sessions. He is the chief scientist of the DBAR Platform of CAS Big Earth Data Program (CASEarth). Dr. Chen conducts interdisciplinary work combining remote sensing, geology, and other fields of study to assess spatial and temporal patterns of disaster risk, including glacial lake outburst floods, landslides, wildfires, drought, and earthquakes, especially in the Himalayas and other parts of High Mountain Asia. Dr. Chen has published over 100 academic papers and book chapters.
