Biography

Dr. N. Munkhtsetseg obtained her Master’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Delhi, India, during 2006–2008, and has been working at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences since 2008. She currently serves as Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics at the Institute. From 2012 to 2013, she successfully completed coursework in a doctoral programme at the University of Helsinki under a scholarship of the Government of Finland. In 2014, she earned her PhD in Linguistics from the National University of Mongolia.

In 2018, she conducted postdoctoral research at the Centre for Translation Studies of the University of Vienna, Austria, and during the same period worked as a Visiting Researcher at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Her academic output includes 5 single-author monographs, 10 co-authored books, 6 edited volumes, 12 peer-reviewed books, 51 research articles (including 3 published in Scopus-indexed journals), and 60 conference papers (22 presented at international conferences). She implemented 7 research projects (project leader of 1 international collaborative project and initiator of 2 national projects), delivered more than 40 television and radio interviews, and carried out over 330 commissioned research and consultancy works for last 5 years.

She has received numerous awards, including the “Best Article” Award of the Institute of Language and Literature of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in 2013, 2017, and 2019; a Certificate of Honour from the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in 2014; a Certificate of Honour from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports in 2016; the “Outstanding Researcher” Award of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in 2020; and the title “Leading Worker of Science” in 2021.

Dr. N. Munkhtsetseg currently serves in several elected and professional roles, including as a Board Member of the International Information Centre for Terminology (INFOTERM), a member of ISO Technical Committee 37 (Terminology and other language and content resources), a member of the Terminology Standards Technical Committee (TC5) of the Mongolian Agency for Standardization and Metrology, a member of the Doctoral Dissertation Council in Linguistics, a member of the Academic Council of the Institute of Language and Literature of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, and Secretary of the Journal Editorial Board.

She has expanded collaboration in her fields with European and international terminology organizations such as Centre for Translation Studies, University of Vienna, Austria, Austrian Academy of Sciences, University of Helsinki, Finland; TUFS, Japan; KAIST, Korea; Inner Mongolian University, China; Association of Terminology of Georgia, and etc. She recently participated in the symposium of ISO TC 37 Language and Terminology held in Takamatsu, Japan on June 22-27, 2025.
