Biography

Dr. Promise Emmanuel Sefogah is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Research at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Ghana Medical School; a Consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility Faculty at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.

He holds a postgraduate Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and Membership from the Ghana College of Surgeons. He obtained his master’s in public (MPH) from the the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of London; Fellowship in minimal access surgery (FMAS) from the World Laparoscopy Hospital, University of South Florida (USA), certificate in OBGYN from Harvard Medical School, and additional training in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (REI) at the Yale Fertility Center, Yale University School of Medicine, Connecticut (USA). 

He received additional specialized training in OBGYN from Belgium, Vancouver, and was named among 26 global Young Physician Leaders at the World Health Summit in Berlin in 2026.

He is the Medical Director and Lead Consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist & Fertility Specialist at the SHAPE Healthcare Specialist Medical Center in Accra.

He is a consultant to UNICEF and WHO on Reproductive Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health, and contributed to global interventions for Universal Health Coverage at the Academy of Medical Sciences, UK.

He is an adjunct lecturer at the Family Health Medical School, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, Ghana, and an examiner for the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana and Accra College of Medicine.

He is a maternal mental health consultant to the World Health Organization, Ghana, and an Honorary Consultant to the Mental Health Authority, Ministry of Health, Ghana on maternal mental health.

His research has focused on reproductive endocrinology and infertility, including: surgical management of male infertility, assisted reproductive technology, fertility preservation, onco-fertility, infertility-related mental health, reproductive healthcare financing, and maternal mental health, among others.

He is currently the VICE President of Fertility Society of Ghana (FERSOG), and General Secretary of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Ghana (SOGOG).

External Expert Reviewer, WHO Guidelines for the Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Infertility.

He was recently honoured by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in January 2026, for his contributions in improving access to quality and quality fertility care in low-resource settings. (Read more here)
