Call for nominations opens for the 2026 Young Physician Leaders Programme

Health

The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) has opened nominations for the 15th edition of the Young Physician Leaders (YPL) Programme, which will take place in Berlin, Germany, from 8 to 11 October 2026 in conjunction with the World Health Summit.

The programme will bring together around 20 outstanding young physicians under the age of 40 from across the world for a unique leadership development experience that combines training, policy engagement and participation in major global health discussions.

The YPL Programme is designed for physicians who are pursuing careers in clinical leadership, public health, medical education, health policy or health systems management. Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership potential, excellent communication skills and a commitment to contributing to the global health community. Diversity across geography, discipline and career path remains a core principle of the selection process, with particular encouragement for the nomination of women physicians.

The 2026 programme will include a structured leadership development component delivered in collaboration with a leading training institution, participation in the Virchow Award ceremony and engagement in the World Health Summit. Participants will also join a global network of YPL alumni working across health systems, academia and policy.

Nominations are open to members of the InterAcademy Partnership and the World Health Summit Academic Alliance, with each organisation able to nominate up to two candidates. Selected participants will be expected to engage actively in the programme and contribute to the wider YPL alumni network following the Berlin meeting.

The deadline for nominations is Thursday 11 June 2026.

A selection committee appointed by the IAP Board will review all applications and identify candidates who best meet the programme criteria. Successful applicants will be notified in August 2026.

Some financial support may be available for participants from low- and middle-income countries, while travel and accommodation support for candidates from high-income countries is expected to be provided by nominating institutions.
