The nomination phase for the Virchow Prize 2026 is now open and will run until 28 February 2026, 24:00 CET (Berlin).

The Virchow Prize honours outstanding contributions to “health for all” across the full breadth of global health. Eligible nominees may come from any field and may be recognised for contributions that include improving global health outcomes, advancing the UN 2030 Agenda with particular attention to SDG 3, strengthening prevention and access to medicines and vaccines, advancing research on disease prevention and treatment, or fostering global cooperation and inclusive approaches to planetary health.

Nominations must be submitted by qualified nominators, including members of scientific academies, leaders of universities and research institutions, senior government and UN officials, and laureates of major international prizes. Self-nominations are not accepted. A maximum of three candidates may be nominated per nominator.

Each year, up to three laureates are selected by an independent Virchow Prize Committee. The award ceremony will take place at Berlin City Hall on 10 October 2026.
