Call for Participants: Advanced Training Course on Science Diplomacy in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe

The Central European Initiative (CEI), in collaboration with the University of Trieste (Department of Political and Social Sciences) and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, and in cooperation with the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Scientific and Innovation System, has launched a call for participants for the upcoming Advanced Training Course on 'Challenges and Perspectives of Science Diplomacy in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe'.

The course will take place from 25-28 November 2025 in Trieste and Gorizia, Italy. It is designed to build capacity in science diplomacy among stakeholders from the target regions, with a particular focus on the diplomatic community. The programme will include 16 teaching modules, three interactive workshops, one study visit and one panel discussion, totalling 25 hours of engagement.

A maximum of 25 participants will be selected through a competitive process. Please note that eligible candidates are not required to be nationals of CEI Member States but must be affiliated with organisations based in CEI Member States.

Confirmed speakers so far include several members of the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance: Pierre-Bruno Ruffini, Katharina Hoene, Christina Hainzl, Simone Arnaldi, Emanuela Colombo and Peter McGrath (IAP Coordinator), who will deliver a lecture on 'Science Diplomacy and the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development'.
