Contributing to the IPBES - the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Work Programme 2014-2018

IAP Members are invited to provide early feedback ahead of the 3rd IPBES Plenary, on the draft scoping reports for the regional and sub-regional assessments of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) by 3 October 2014.

Earlier this year the national science academies were invited to nominate experts to contribute to the Platform's 2014 - 2018 Work Programme.

The short deadline is due to the tight schedule for preparation of documents for the third Plenary. The document was produced by the 125 experts who met in August 2014, in Paris, to scope the regional/subregional assessments of IPBES (Deliverable 2b of the IPBES Work Programme). The full regional and sub-regional assessments would be undertaken from 2015 to 2017, if approved by the 3rd session of the Plenary.

The document, available HERE includes a first part presenting options and rationale for five regional assessments, followed by the draft scoping reports for these 5 regional assessments. Please use Template no. 1 below for this purpose.

We would like to also take this opportunity to invite you to provide us with early feedback ahead of the 3rd IPBES Plenary, on the revised draft stakeholder engagement strategy, using Template no. 2 provided below, by 3 October 2014.

Based on the comments received, the IPBES Secretariat will draft the final working document for the Plenary, further drawing out the commonalities and differences among the regional reports.
