ISSC (International Social Science Council) organized the first ever World Social Science Forum (WSSF) in Bergen, Norway, from May 10-12, 2009.The overall theme of the Forum was “One Planet – Worlds Apart?” The event featured Plenary Sessions with eminent speakers, including a keynote by Nobel prize winner Amartya Sen on “Challenges for the Social Sciences in the 21st Century”.
Other plenary speakers include Saskia Sassen on “The Development of Development Theory, Jon Elster on “One Social Science – or Many?, as well as the Foreign Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, on "Knowing Better - and Doing Worse? What Social Science can Provide for Policy Makers”.
