Women scientists from around the world will take the stage in the global finale of Short Talks, Big Impacts 2026, a research communication competition organized by the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World. The online event will take place on 11 March 2026 at 15:00 CET and will bring together finalists from four regional rounds to present their work in concise three-minute talks.

Launched to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the competition provides a platform for women scientists to communicate the significance of their research and its relevance for local and global challenges. The initiative highlights the importance of clear, accessible science communication while celebrating the contributions of women researchers across disciplines.

Earlier this year, regional sessions brought together scientists from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific and the Arab region. Selected presenters from the global membership of OWSD delivered dynamic three-minute presentations during live webinars. Audiences voted for the most engaging talks, with the top two presenters from each region advancing to the global finale.

During the final event, eight scientists will present their research to a worldwide audience. The winner will be selected through a combination of public voting and evaluation by an international jury.

The competition builds on the success of its inaugural edition, whose global finale attracted more than 750 viewers worldwide. By encouraging scientists to communicate their work clearly and concisely, the initiative aims to strengthen connections between research and society and highlight the impact of women scientists working across the globe.

The Short Talks, Big Impacts 2026 Global Finale will be livestreamed online and open to all participants.
