The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has appointed IAP president and former 'IAP for Science' co-chair Mohamed Hassan as chair of the Governing Council of the Technology Bank for LDCs (Least Developed Countries).
The Governing Council is a multi-stakeholder group comprising representatives of the governments and non-governmental sectors. It will provide support to the UN Secretary-General in undertaking the necessary steps towards the operationalization of the Technology Bank, in particular formulating the principles and policies that will govern the activities and operations of the Technology Bank, including preparing its Charter for consideration and adoption by the UN General Assembly.
