IAMP at the World Health Summit in Berlin, Germany

IAMP - the health arm of the new InterAcademy Partnership, organizes the fourth edition of the Young Physician Leader's Programme (YPL) in conjunction with the World Health Summit, 19-22 October 2014

The opening ceremony of the World Health Summit took place on 19 October in the German Federal Foreign Office, the “Weltsaal”, Berlin. Guest speakers included German Federal Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Federal Minister of Health, Hermann Gröhe, French Minister of State for Development, Annick Girardin, and Nobel Prize Laureate, Barry J. Marshall. Lakmali Amarasiri, an IAMP YPL alumna from Sri Lanka, was invited to provide some opening remarks on behalf of the YPL which focused on the 'brain drain' of trained health professionals from developing countries.  Follow the LINK for the commentary on the IAMP website.

A group of 20 Young Physician Leaders were assembled by IAMP, on the fringes of the Summit. Nominated by IAMP member academies and selected by the Executive Committee, the 20 young physicians from 16 countries were joined by four alumni from previous editions. These alumni acted as mentors during the workshop, which took place on 18-19 October. Full details of the YPL workshop are available HERE.

The World Health Summit continues this week with a special session that will examine the current Ebola crisis - 'A Wake-up Call for Global Health'. Other tracks include those focusing on Research and Innovation, Evidence to Policy, and Global Health for Development. Follow the LINK to Livestream. Among the symposia, two will organized by IAMP.
 
The new InterAcademy Partnership (www.interacademies.org) will also be introduced by IAP co-chair Volker ter Meulen, and discussed by Gary Aslanyan of the World Health Organization, Jochen Maas of Sanofi, who will provide the private industry viewpoint, and Philippe Meyer from the Academie des Sciences, France, among others.
