The Inter-American Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS) has announced the winner of the prestigious Young Scientists Research Award 2024. This year’s award attracted applications from across Latin America, highlighting the region's brightest young minds in scientific research.
Each participating country's national academy selected one outstanding candidate to compete in the final round. The list of talented finalists included Ana Beatriz Cosenza Muralles (Guatemala), Ana Ochoa Sánchez (Ecuador), Heiddy Paola Quiroz Gaitán (Colombia), Helga Grunberg (Bolivia), Roshine A. Doon (Caribbean), Veronica Lizano (Costa Rica), and Yuliana Monroy (Argentina). These candidates were recognized for their exceptional contributions to various fields of science.
Following a rigorous evaluation process, the jury—comprising representatives from the academies of non-participating countries (Brazil, Mexico, and Chile)—deliberated extensively to select the winner. After careful consideration, the jury awarded the IANAS Young Scientists Research Award 2024 to Dr. Heiddy Paola Quiroz Gaitán from Colombia, a distinguished physicist renowned for her innovative research and contributions to the field.
Dr. Quiroz’s achievement highlights the growing importance of scientific research in Latin America and reflects the commitment of young scientists to advancing knowledge and addressing global challenges. Her recognition as this year's winner is expected to inspire further scientific innovation and collaboration across the region.
