United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the members of a High-level Panel to advise on the organizational and operational aspects of the proposed Technology Bank and Science, Technology and Innovation Supporting Mechanism dedicated to the least developed countries.

The Secretary-General has appointed IAP Co-chair Mohamed Hassan to the Panel. 'Through the IAP global network of science academies we should endeavor to ensure that each LDC has an active merit-based Academy with appropriate funding to enable it to carry out its objectives' says Hassan in a statement following his appointment.

Romain Murenzi, Executive Director of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in Trieste, Italy, and former Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Scientific Research of the Republic of Rwanda, has been appointed the Chair of the Panel. Fang Xin, President of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) - an IAP observer organization, has also been selected for the Panel.
