Election of Catlow and Reddy as IAP-R Co-Chairs
Richard Catlow and Daya Reddy elected Co-Chairs of the new Board of the InterAcademy Partnership for Research, for term 2017 – 2020.
WASHINGTON, D.C., 31 October 2017 – The governing board of the InterAcademy Partnership for Research (IAP-R) has elected Richard Catlow, Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society and Daya Reddy, past president of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa as its co-chairs for the next three years. Richard Catlow is Professor in the Department of Chemistry, University College London (UCL) and the School of Chemistry, Cardiff University. Daya Reddy is an Executive Board member of the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the Director of the Centre for Research in Computational and Applied Mechanics, University of Cape Town, South Africa.
A new IAP-R Board has been elected to serve for the term 2017 – 2020. The new Board includes the following: African Academy of Sciences; Australian Academy of Science; Brazilian Academy of Sciences; Chinese Academy of Sciences; Académie des Sciences, France; German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina; Indian National Science Academy; Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei (Italy); Science Council of Japan; Royal Scientific Society of Jordan; Mexican Academy of Sciences; Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts & Sciences; Nigerian Academy of Science; National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka; and TWAS – The World Academy of Sciences. Ex-officio voting representation is from IAP for Science, IAP for Health, and the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS). Official observers include representatives of the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the IAP-R host academy, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine.
The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) was launched in 2016 and brings together established networks of academies of science, medicine and engineering forming a new collaboration in which academies will work together to support the special role of science and its efforts to seek solutions to address the world’s most challenging problems. IAP for Research mobilizes the best scientists and engineers worldwide to provide high quality in-depth advice to the United Nations and the broader global community on critical science policy issues.
