'Climate Change 2021: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability' will be available for Expert Review until 13 December 2019

Expert Review is an integral part of the preparation of IPCC reports. The purpose of the review is to ensure that the report is comprehensive, objective and balanced. The IPCC Procedures require the expert review process to be open and transparent, with wide participation of experts.

The First Order Draft (FOD) of the Working Group II (WGII) contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) ‘Climate Change 2021: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability’ will be available for Expert Review from 18 October to 13 December 2019.

“The expert review of the FOD is a key element of the IPCC assessment process” says IPCC Secretary Abdalah Mokssit.

“The purpose of this expert review is to help ensure that the report provides a balanced and comprehensive assessment of the latest scientific findings he added, stressing the fact that "[t]he IPCC Procedures state that the expert review process shall be objective, open and transparent, with a wide circulation that aims to involve as many independent experts as possible in the IPCC process, seeking a range of views, expertise, and geographical representation.”

Governments and observer organizations are now asked to encourage additional experts to participate in the expert review of the AR6 Working Group II FOD. An online registration process has been developed and is open for prospective expert reviewers via the IPCC web site, registration will close on 6 December 2019, 23:59 (GMT +1).

Additional information on the role of Expert Reviewer is available in Annex 1 of Appendix A to the Principles Governing IPCC Work. Please also see here an information note explaining the Expert Review process
