IAP Co-Chairs appointments ...  Chen Zhu,  former vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been appointed minister of health of China. Howard Alper has been appointed chair of the Government of Canada's new Science, Technology, and Innovation Council.

- The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) has entered into agreements with the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, India, the National Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), Lahore, Pakistan, and the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), which includes the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research, Karachi, Pakistan, to offer a number of postgraduate and postdoctoral fellowships to young scientists from developing countries.
