- The Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services is annually presented to four individuals (personalities or organizations, doctors or others) who provide important voluntary services and who significantly contribute to alleviating the suffering of a large number of human beings subjected to exceptional circumstances such as catastrophes, epidemics, famine, wars and natural calamities.

In 2007, the prize amount is AED three hundred thousand (AED 300,000) (approx.US$ 82,000) to be awarded to 4 winners, 2 individuals are to receive AED fifty thousand each (AED 50,000) (approx. US$ 13,500) and 2 institutions are to receive AED one hundred thousand each (AED 100,000) (approx.US$ 27,000).
The last date for receiving the completed nomination was November 30, 2007.
- The PuRkwa Prize, worth 80,000 euros, is awarded every year by the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines of Saint-Etienne and the French Academy of Science for contributions to the awakening of a scientific spirit among children through innovative teaching methods.
The deadline for nominations is 15 April 2007.

IAP held its triennal International Conference on "The Unity of Science" and General Assembly in Alexandria, Egypt from 1-5 December 2006. Venue of the event was the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the library complex built on the site of the Library of Alexandria, the world biggest library in ancient times.

- 31 March 2007 was the closing date for nominations for this year's TWAS's Trieste Science Prize and the TWAS Prizes for contributions in eight fields of basic and applied sciences.
