- EASAC (European Academies' Science Advisory Council), an IAP Observer, issued a statement earlier this year reiterating the role of science and technology in developing the economies of the European Union (EU). - The Royal Society announces a scientific discussion meeting on Synthetic Biology: Monday 2 – Tuesday 3 June 2008: Synthetic biology has been described as the design and construction of novel artificial biological pathways, organisms or devices, or the redesign of existing natural biological systems. It has developed from the convergence of other disciplines such as systems biology, genetic engineering, engineering, information theory, physics, nanotechnologies and computer modelling.
