Phoebe Koundouri Appointed Co-Chair of UN Independent Group of Scientists for the 2027 Global Sustainable Development Report

The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) congratulates Professor Phoebe Koundouri on her appointment by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as Co-Chair of the Independent Group of Scientists that will prepare the 2027 Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR).

The group, composed of 15 leading scientists from around the world, will provide independent, evidence-based insights to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The report will be launched in 2027 in connection with high-level United Nations events.

Professor Koundouri has been engaged in IAP-related activities through her role with the Development and Programme Committee on Academy Capacity Building, which contributes to strengthening academies’ ability to provide evidence-based policy advice and promote scientific collaboration globally.

Earlier this year, she co-chaired a session on science-driven acceleration of the SDGs, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary science in advancing sustainable development.
