Science Policy for Emerging African Leaders in Science

The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and the Global Young Academy (GYA)/University of Pretoria’s Africa Science Leadership Program (ASLP) are collaborating to provide emerging African leaders in science with opportunities to enrich their understanding of and engagement with science policy. Programming includes:

1. A science policy workshop on 27-28 March 2019 at the University of Pretoria, held in conjunction with the Global Young Academy's African Science Leadership Programme.  Through interactive and experiential sessions, scientists will learn communication skills for effective engagement with policymakers and for translation of knowledge for policy impact.
2. A pilot program that will provide month-long fellowships at policymaking or policy-advising organizations for emerging African leaders in the sciences. Host organizations and partners, such as the African Academy of Science (AAS), will provide fellow with insight, training and experience in bringing science to bear on policymaking.
