Professor Takashi Onishi, president of Science Council of Japan, extends his sincere gratitude for the kind concern and generous messages of sympathy and assistance received from countries, regions and international organizations in response to the suffering caused by the earthquake centered in the Kumamoto Region of Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, that occurred on 16 April this year. To provide additional information about the earthquake and the response, Prof. Onishi, together with Prof. Akira Wada and Prof. Noriaki Hirose, representative directors, Japan Academic Network for Disaster Reduction, have released a statement on The 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake on April 16 and Our Actions.
