Share your experience: New global survey on participation in scientific organizations

Sustainable Development Goals
Other
This international survey explores how scientists engage in scientific organizations — including access, roles, leadership pathways, perceived benefits and barriers, organizational culture, inclusion, policies, recognition and experiences of discrimination. Your insights will help shape recommendations to foster more equitable and inclusive participation.

The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), the International Science Council (ISC) and the Standing Committee for Gender Equality in Science (SCGES), have launched a global qualitative survey to understand how scientists experience participation in scientific organizations—such as academies, unions, and societies—across career stages, disciplines, and regions. The survey explores pathways to participation, organizational cultures, perceived benefits and barriers, and the factors that shape access to leadership, visibility, and recognition. Developed with input and review from a high-level Expert Panel convened by the ISC, IAP, and SCGES, the survey reflects diverse expertise and ensures scientific integrity and relevance. By gathering diverse perspectives, the study will provide actionable insights to foster more inclusive, equitable and representative scientific communities.

Who should take part?

We welcome participation from all scientists who are engaged in scientific organizations - including national academies, international and national scientific unions, disciplinary societies, science councils and associations and young academies.

Please share this with your colleagues and networks to help us reach a wide and diverse group of respondents.
