The Sida-backed grants provide developing world scientists with much-needed equipment and more

TWAS announced that its four flagship research grants programmes—all of them financially supported by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida)—are now actively seeking applications. The deadline for every programme is 3 April 2024.

TWAS Research Grant applicants must be from one of 66 science-and-technology-lagging countries (STLCs) identified by TWAS. There are four programmes in total:

  1. Grants for individuals in the basic sciences;
  2. Grants for research groups in the basic sciences;
  3. Grants for collaborative and interdisciplinary research;
  4. Grants for maintenance

Support for these grants often go to important scientific initiatives in the global South, such as solar cell and water purification research. Applications from women scientists and those working in UN-identified Least Developed Countries are especially encouraged. Further information on each is available at the individual link for each grant, or in our guide to research grants.
