TWAS Opens New Fellowships, Grants and Awards Opportunities for Scientists in the Developing World

Scientists from developing countries can now apply for a range of fellowships, research grants and awards offered by UNESCO-TWAS to support research excellence, international collaboration and scientific capacity building.

Fellowships for PhD and Postdoctoral Research

TWAS is currently accepting applications for several fellowship programmes:

  1. TWAS-CSIR Postgraduate Fellowship Programme (India) supports PhD research in emerging areas of science and technology at laboratories and institutes of India's Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Extended deadline: 3 June 2026. More infos here
  2. TWAS-CUI Postgraduate Fellowship Programme (Pakistan) offers support for PhD studies in natural, social and economic sciences at COMSATS University Islamabad. Deadline: 15 June 2026. More infos here
  3. TWAS-CUI Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme (Pakistan) provides early-career researchers from developing countries with the opportunity to undertake postdoctoral research at COMSATS University Islamabad for up to six months. Deadline: 15 June 2026. More infos here

 

Research Grants for Scientists in the MENA Region

TWAS is also accepting applications for its Grants for Transformative and Collaborative Research in the Middle East and North Africa (GTCR-MENA) programme, supported by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).

The programme supports promising research projects in fields aligned with Germany’s High-Tech Agenda, including artificial intelligence, biotechnology, climate and sustainability research, health, energy and marine sciences. The grants aim to strengthen research capacity and collaboration between scientists in selected MENA countries and German research institutions.

Nominations Open for Six International Science Awards

In addition, TWAS has opened nominations for six international awards recognising outstanding scientific achievements in the developing world. The awards cover a range of disciplines and include opportunities for women scientists, early-career researchers and scientists from least developed countries.

Nominations must be submitted through scientific institutions, universities or academies. Self-nominations are not accepted.
