IAP released a Statement on Population and Consumption on 14 June 2012 prior to Rio + 20, which received wide-spread press coverage. The Statement is currently being translated into Spanish, French and Arabic. The 2012 Statement drew from the IAP 1994 Statement on Population Growth, where IAP Member Academies called upon governments and international decision-makers, especially those at the 1994 UN International Conference on Population and Development, to take incisive action and adopt an integrated policy on population and sustainable development on a global scale.
