Winners announced in IANAS video contest on women scientists

The InterAmerican Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS) has announced the winners of its 2026 'Let’s Discover Female Scientists' video contest.

The competition invited young people aged 14 to 23 from across Latin America and the Caribbean to create short videos about women scientists and their contributions to science. More than 80 videos were submitted from 14 countries, with entries judged across two age categories.

In the 14–18 category, Alicia Oliveira Toledo of Brazil won first place. Sofia Ocerin Hernandez of Mexico came second, while Ximena Sofia Bermudez Arce of Costa Rica received an Honourable Mention.

In the 19–23 category, Diana Isela Cauich Almaguer of Mexico was awarded first place. Alexandra Cabrera Roque of Peru came second and Lola Pousa of Argentina received an Honourable Mention.

The contest was organised by the IANAS Women for Science Program as part of its work to increase the visibility of women scientists across the region. The winning videos and full results are available on the IANAS website.
