How far have scientific organizations come in advancing gender equality — and how far do we still have to go?
On 11 February 2026, the International Science Council (ISC), the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), and the Standing Committee for Gender Equality in Science (SCGES) will host a landmark public webinar marking the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Running from 14:00–16:00 UTC, the 90-minute online event will unveil the results of a major 10-year study on gender equality across academies, scientific unions, and disciplinary societies worldwide.

A decade of evidence, a global call to action
Drawing on data from 136 scientific organizations, survey responses from nearly 650 scientists, and targeted interviews, the new ISC–IAP–SCGES report provides the most comprehensive assessment to date of women’s participation, leadership and recognition in scientific institutions.
The study reveals both progress and persistent barriers — offering data-driven insights into:
- Who is represented in membership and leadership
- Which institutional policies make a difference
- Where inequities remain most entrenched
- How scientists themselves experience inclusion and exclusion
The webinar will present quantitative trends from 2015 to 2025 alongside qualitative evidence capturing lived experiences within scientific organizations.
