World Science Forum kicks off in Jordan

More than 2,500 science leaders from over 120 countries have gathered at the World Science Forum 2017 that is currently taking place on the shores of the Dead Sea in Jordan.

The World Science Forum, held every two years, brings together leading scientists, policymakers and international organizations to discuss the latest trends in science and define ways that science can help "fight poverty and promote just, equitable and inclusive social development'"

The theme of this year's meeting - 'Science For Peace' - directy reflects these goals.

"We consider the Forum as a gift to the nation," said HRH Princess bint Hassan, president of the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan and chair of the Forum. "The whole country is buzzing. Everyone is talking about the World Science Forum."

Indeed, the part of the opening ceremony attended by King Hussein bin Talal was screened live on Jordanian television.

A strong delegation from IAP is present in Jordan, including both co-chairs of IAP for Science, Volker ter Meulen and Krishan Lal, as well as co-chair for IAP for Research, Daya Reddy.

Among the sessions at the Forum, IAP is presenting a preview of the regional reports (due to be published shortly) from its 'Food and Nutrtiona Security and Agriculture' project.
