A decade after participating in the IAP's Young Physician Leaders (YPL) Programme, Dr. M. Tasdik Hasan, a member of the 2016 YPL cohort, has been profiled in The Lancet Psychiatry, recognizing his contributions to community-based mental health research in Bangladesh.
The feature highlights Dr. Hasan's work to improve mental health through research that is rooted in the needs and experiences of local communities. His career has focused on expanding access to mental health care, reducing stigma as well as developing innovative approaches to support underserved populations. His work also includes initiatives such as the co-design of a Bangla mental health sign language resource, reflecting his commitment to inclusive mental health services.
Reflecting on the recognition, Dr. Hasan described being featured in The Lancet Psychiatry as an unexpected honour. He noted that international recognition of community-driven mental health research from Bangladesh remains rare and expressed gratitude to the mentors, colleagues, research participants, family and collaborators who have supported his journey.
The IAP Young Physician Leaders Programme brings together outstanding early-career physicians from around the world to strengthen leadership, foster international collaboration and build lasting professional networks. Dr. Hasan's achievements demonstrate the long-term impact that young physician leaders can have in advancing global health through research, innovation and service to their communities.
IAP warmly congratulates Dr. Hasan on this well-deserved recognition and is proud to see a member of the 2016 YPL cohort featured for his contributions to global mental health.
