Biography

Prof. Ariel M. Silber (Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo, Brazil). Prof. Silber graduated in Biological Sciences (1992) and pursued his PhD in Sciences (2000) at the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina). Then he migrated to Brazil as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate, at the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Chemistry, University of São Paulo (2000-2004),  where he initiated his research on the metabolism of amino acids and their role in the biology of Trypanosoma cruzi. Later, he became a fellow of the program “Young Researchers in Emerging Centres – FAPESP''. In 2006 he was hired as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Parasitology of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences – University of São Paulo, where he was promoted to Associate Professor (2011) and to Full Professor (2018). He has graduated 9 masters’ students, 12 PhD students, and trained a dozen of post-doctoral researchers. Among other academic activities, he has served on several committees, councils, as deputy director of the Department of Parasitology of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of São Paulo, and as Treasurer and member of the Directory board of the Brazilian Society of Protozoology.
