Dr. Courtney Hill is a Program Officer at the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). At the
NAE, she leads workshops and consensus studies focused on issues concerning social and environmental responsibility in engineering, offshore energy safety, and global transport decarbonization. Previously, she was a Mirzayan Fellow with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s InterAcademy Partnership. In this role, she conducted research on how Africa’s continental science and technology policy was integrated at the regional and national levels. In 2014, she taught English at a STEM high school in South Korea as a Fulbright grantee. Dr. Hill holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia. Her dissertation research explored the relationship between health outcomes and access to ceramic water treatment devices that use silver for disinfection in rural South Africa. At the University of Virginia, Dr. Hill worked as a program assistant for UVA CHARGE, creating programming aimed to increase the number of women holding STEM faculty positions on campus. She is currently on the Board of Advisors for the NexGen Mekong Scientists Program and a Visiting Advisor for the University of Arkansas Office of Nationally Competitive Awards.
