Ekanem Ikpi Braide

Professor Emerita Ekanem Ikpi Braide, holds B.Sc Zoology (Ife, Nigeria 1971), M.Sc & PhD Parasitology (Cornell, USA 1978) and Certificate in Epidemiology (Southampton UK 1986). She is Fellow of Salzburg Seminar 1986. She joined the University of Calabar in 1979 and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1991. She has been involved in control of communicable diseases in Nigeria. She is President, Board of Trustees of Society for Family Health (SFH) and a member of Board of Trustees of Global Fellowship (GF) of the Leprosy Mission International (TLMI). She is the immediate past President of the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS). She is a recipient of Jimmy/Roslynn Carter Award for outstanding dedication to the eradication of guinea worm in Nigeria and President of Nigeria’s award of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) for her contribution to disease control in Nigeria. A Science Laboratory (Salle Prof. Ekanem Braide) in the French International School, Abuja, has been named after her by the Ambassador of France to Nigeria. Professor Braide served as Vice Chancellor, Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) Calabar, Nigeria (2004 to 2009) and as Pioneer Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Lafia, Nigeria (2011 to 2016).
